Introduction

India has a flourishing and largely indigenous nuclear power program and expects to have 20,000 MWe nuclear capacity on line by 2020 and 63,000 MWe by 2032. It aims to supply 25% of electricity from nuclear power by 2050. Now, foreign technology and fuel are expected to boost India’s nuclear power plans considerably. India has a vision of becoming a world leader in nuclear technology due to its expertise in fast reactors and thorium fuel cycle.

There are now 439 nuclear reactors in operation around the world in over 30 countries, providing almost 16% of the world’s electricity. Only Nuclear Energy offers Emission free energy on a massive and expanding scale the world so urgently requires. Moreover nuclear energy is considered to be an environmentally benign source of energy.

In order to help the industry achieve these goals, UBM India is hosting the 3rd edition of INDIA NUCLEAR ENERGY SUMMIT 2011, schedule on 29 September 2011 in Mumbai. This Summit will provide information about ensuring nuclear power safety and challenges within nuclear power plant safety, with keeping in mind the latest disaster which occurred at Fukushima, Japan. It will provide a global platform which addresses key issues, identifies Opportunities and challenges, captures learning’s and best practices and focus on strategic and a complete competitiveness kit for the sector, as it prepares to meet new challenges and moves towards competitive efficiency in the Nuclear Energy sector.
